Lingu English — formerly Perfectly Spoken — runs a complete B1 Intermediate course for adults who want to handle everyday English on their own: conversations at work, travel, study and social life. Sixty structured lessons, qualified teachers, weekly live practice and AI feedback between sessions.
Deal with most situations while travelling, take part in conversations on familiar topics, and produce simple connected text about experiences, plans and opinions.
Every card answers one question: what will you actually be able to do in English at B1?
Talk about your work, studies, plans and experiences, and keep a simple conversation going on familiar topics.
Deal with most situations that come up while travelling — bookings, directions, problems, small talk.
Emails, messages and short descriptions about familiar subjects, with reasons and explanations.
Understand clear standard speech and straightforward factual texts on matters you meet at work, in study and in free time.
Past, present and future to describe events, habits, plans and intentions — accurately enough to be understood.
Enough for work, travel, study and social life — with the common phrases to use them naturally.
B1 shows up in real situations — explaining what you do, sorting out travel, joining a team catch-up, telling a story about your weekend. The course rehearses exactly these.
Situations the course rehearses
You follow simple English, but speaking back takes effort and you avoid the conversations you need.
Lessons drill the tenses, question forms and phrases that everyday situations actually use.
Weekly live practice gives feedback on how you sound, not only whether the answer is correct.
You start, keep going and finish conversations on familiar topics without rehearsing every line.
Every Lingu English teacher is CELTA- or DELTA-qualified, holds at least one university degree, and has a minimum of ten years’ practical classroom and online experience. Your teachers run the weekly live practice and give feedback as you build everyday independence.
Each curriculum area maps to an ability you will use — not a syllabus dump. Sixty lessons, ~35 minutes each, with a review every fifth slot.
The placement test tells you whether B1 is the right start, whether to finish the level below first, or whether Fast-track is the better route.

At B1 the work is everyday speaking, the core tenses, listening for detail and writing simple connected text — aligned to Cambridge B1 Preliminary.

At the recommended three hours a week, the 60 video lessons amount to roughly four to five months of self-study. Live practice runs alongside this, every week. The pace is yours — many learners move on to B2 within six to nine months, but the platform stays with you for as long as you need it.
The Lingutest takes five minutes and gives you a CEFR level on the spot. If you're between A2 and B1, or between B1 and B2, the result tells you where the gain is. Take the test.
The B1 course is aligned to Cambridge English: B1 Preliminary (PET) and supports IELTS candidates working from band 4.0 towards 5.0. It builds the underlying language; for exam-specific technique — task types, timing, scoring — pair it with our IELTS or Cambridge exam preparation pages.
Both. The 60 video lessons are available 24/7 in your subscription. On top of that, English Live and English Fast-track include weekly live B1 group classes (Monday to Friday and Saturday morning), speaking sessions, and unlimited masterclass webinars with our teachers. See live practice.
Free apps train recognition. Lingu trains production — with a real teacher who can hear your spoken English, read your writing and tell you what to fix. The AI practice partner fills the gap between sessions; it doesn't replace the teacher.
Yes. Your subscription covers every level. When you finish B1, you move straight into B2 Upper-Intermediate at no extra cost. Most learners do.
Common. The Lingutest tells you which lessons to start with — sometimes that means finishing the last quarter of A2 before opening B1, sometimes it means skipping ahead. Your test result is the map.
Five minutes for the placement test. Seven days to try the platform. Then choose the pace that matches your goal.
